Many organisations and institutions are coming up to support the LGBT students who are willing to study abroad. They are providing various scholarships to provide financial support to the LGBT students.

1.   THE POINT FOUNDATION- LGBTQ SCHOLARSHIP

The point foundation is a national organisation granting scholarships aimed at helping the LGBTQ students. It wants the LGBT students to achieve their academic potential. Apart from the scholarship, the Point Foundation also gives mentorship and leadership development to those students in high school as well as university. Every year this scholarship ranges from around $ 5,000 to $ 28,000.

2.   GAMMA MU FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Gamma Mu Foundation provides individual scholarships to gay men who are interested in any postsecondary institution or vocational school. It also provides a variety of educational options so that the student can pursue their desired educational aspirations inclusive of associate, bachelor’s degree and associate programs along with vocational and technical training. This scholarship, every year, gives a $19,000 award.

3.   PRIDE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The Pride Foundation was established in 1985, which aims at providing educational opportunities to the LGBTQs across the North-western region of the US. The Foundation has around 50 scholarship programs for the LGBTQ students. Categories include academic, leadership or cultural programs, and geography. Every year the foundation scholarship ranges from $5,000 to $10,000.

 

4.   LIVE OUT LOUD EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP

Any LGBTQ youth who is pursuing any degree at a college or university can avail the scholarship with Live Out Loud. It is a non-profit organisation aiming to empower the LGBT youth and inspiring the community to live out proud and free. It is open to all the LGBT high school seniors. The organization provides 5 LGBT students with a scholarship of $5000 every year.

5.   LEAGUE FOUNDATION – LGBT SCHOLARSHIP

Started in 1996, the LEAGUE Foundation provides financial resources to the LGBT high school seniors in America who want to pursue higher education. It has segregated three scholarship awards: the Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship, the Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship and the LEAGUE Foundation Scholarship. Every year they accept applications from January to April and they announce the awardees in July.

6.   APIQWTC SCHOLARSHIP

APIQWTC stands for Asia Pacific Islander Queer Women and Transgender Community and is pronounced as “Api-cutesy”. It was founded in 1987 and is a volunteer based organisation. The scholarship is given to two Asia Pacific Islander, lesbian, bisexual, queer, or transgender students who are pursuing technical or professional programme at higher education institutions. APIQWTC provides students with a scholarship of around $1000.

7.   PFLAG NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The PFLAG was founded in 1972, and is the largest grass-roots based organisation in the United States. The organization commits to provide equality and support to the LGBTQ community. The scholarship is open to all LGBT and allied students across the globe who aspire to pursue higher education. PFLAG gives awardees $1000-5000 every year.

8.   STONEWALL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Founded in 1990, the Stonewall Foundation focuses on the needs of the LGBTQ community particularly in the New York. It aspires a meaningful change by giving scholarship opportunities for those students. In the year 2015, it offered 4 unique scholarship opportunities for the students, each displaying the unique values of its donors.

9.   COLIN HIGGINS YOUTH COURAGE AWARD

The Colin Higgins Foundation was established in 2000 and offers the Youth Courage Award every year to recognise exceptional students belonging to the LGBT community. The youth activists who have applied stand a chance of winning a scholarship of $10,000 along with a chance of attending the National Conference on LGBT Equality and also an honour during the Pride Week and a paid trip to Los Angeles or New York.

10.    NGPA- AVIATION SCHOLARSHIP

Anyone in the LGBT community can apply for the scholarship provided by the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA). It is an international organisation promoting equality as well as safety to the LGBT community. In addition to talented individuals, this scholarship is given to exceptional candidates who showcase great involvement and support for the LGBT community.

11.  RAINBOW SCHOLARSHIP

Rainbow scholarship came into existence due to generous donation and support of various international educational professionals who are dedicated towards the welfare of the LGBT community. Every year Fund for Education Abroad awards this scholarship which is a part of the NAFSA Rainbow Special Interest Group which consists of personals dedicated to support and guide the LGBT students.

12.  IGLTA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

IGLTA stands for International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association Foundation awarding Annual Global Convention Scholarship for the LGBT students in fields of tourism and hospitality. The foundation also works for establishing businesses for the interested students in destinations that lack LGBT acceptance. Furthermore, this will promote the acceptance of the LGBT community across the globe.
