The GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a test taken by students across the globe for getting admissions in the reputed grad schools. IMPORTANT THINGS TO TAKE CARE OF WHILE CHOOSING THE GRE OR GMAT TEST DATES
1. Some schools take MBA applications on a rolling basis, while others have specific deadlines. Some schools have more than one program start per year while others have only one. In such a huge variation, you need to take care of the deadlines of the program of your choice.
2. Also if you are thinking of giving the exam first and then choosing which schools to apply to, keep in mind that the test scores are valid for 5 years. You cannot decide in one night the best suited programs for your goals and potential. It is advisable to plan at least 6 months well in advance to do that.
3. After proper planning, pick a GRE or GMAT date in such a manner that your scores are reported prior to application deadlines. Also see to it when will the program, you are interested in, needs your application and your test score and plan backwards to schedule your exam. Don’t forget that you may need to take the exam more than once, so allow for that possibility.
4. Another important factor to keep in mind, that you need to estimate the time you will require for preparing for the exam. Everybody has different learning styles and pace. Nobody knows you better than yourself and only you can best judge of how much time you will need to prepare for the exam. The duration of preparation may vary from 4 months to 18 months depending on your capability and also several attempts may be needed before you achieve you best competitive score.

SOME IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT GMAT OR GRE SCORE REPORTING
You should know how long it takes for the scores to be sent and how many times you can take the exams before booking a GRE or GMAT test date. Mentioned below are some important things related to these tests. Go through them once so that you can pick up a suitable date for giving the GRE or GMAT exam.
1. HOW FREQUENTLY CAN YOU TAKE THE EXAM
GRE – you can give the computer based GRE General Test once every 21 days,
up to 5 times within continuous rolling 1 year period. This is still valid even
even if you cancel your scores on a test taken previously.
GMAT- you can give the GMAT exam once in every 16 days, but up to 5 times
within continuous rolling 1 year period and that too not more than eight
times in total. If while scheduling the test date you enter a date fewer than
16 days from your last appointment, you will receive an error message
which will ask you to choose another date.
WHEN AND HOW ARE THE TEST REPORTS SENT?
FOR GRE
The computer based test scores’ reports are send to you chosen schools with 10 to 15 days. So schools use automated feed with ETS so that they can see the reports at the same time as you do while other choose to receive them via mail which me take longer time. Using the ScoreSelect option, you can choose which test scores to send to the institutions you designate.
FOR GMAT
The GMAT official scores will be sent within 20 days following completion of the test. You need to pay the registration fee for the same.
For the non US programs, it may even take up to 8 weeks for your scores to reach. Every program decides how to accept the score reports; whether electronically or via paper copy.
